Upcycled Fruit Bowl ~and~ Hanging Office/Craft Organizer #ChickfilaMomsDIY‬

Chick-fil-A sent me a few free product coupons and one was for their new Spicy Southwest Chicken Salad.  I couldn’t wait to try out this new salad and immediately I fell in love with it and have eaten four within the last two weeks (!) It is that good.  The fun part is they also challenged Moms in their Chick-fil-A Moms Club to come up with a DIY project upcycling the plastic salad container after eating the salad.

I love challenges like this and the rules were very loose, basically be creative and have fun with it. Since I had four salads and I was determined to make something from the four containers!

For my first DIY I turned the salad plastic container into a fruit bowl with the additional help from a used Earth Balance butter container.  For my second DIY I turned 3 salad plastic containers into a tiered hanging office/craft organizer.  I love the final result of both projects – they weren’t hard to make and can’t believe they were made using plastic containers that otherwise would have been tossed in the recycling bin.

Check out the easy instructions below for both projects and when you are done with your Chick-fil-a plastic containers make sure to wash them out and save for a fun project.  You’ll be amazed at what you can create!

Fruit Bowl:

This upcycled fruit bowl was made using:

  • Chick-fil-A salad container (washed & dried thoroughly)
  • Earth Balance butter container (washed & dried thoroughly)
  • Spray paint (I chose gold, but you can choose any color you’d like)
  • Gorilla Glue
  • Stickers (picked up at Michael’s)

Here are the simple steps to make this project:

And here is the final fruit bowl, and I am just smitten over it!

I am so in love with this project ~ it came out better than I envisioned and I was able to make it for under $5 using the previously used salad and butter containers.

You can choose any color you’d like to make it.  I think this fruit bowl could also double as a server for parties too!

So what do you think?  Could you see this sitting on your kitchen table?!  Do you think anyone be able to guess it was made from a used plastic containers?

Hanging Tiered Office/Craft Organizer:

Now for the second project I made…

This upcycled hanging office/craft organizer was made using:

  • 3 Chick-fil-A salad containers (washed & dried thoroughly)
  • Spray paint (I chose coral and yellow, but you can choose any colors you’d like)
  • Gorilla Glue
  • Foam stickers/shapes (foam sheets can be used and cut into the shapes you’d like)
  • Small screw driver to make holes
  • Wooden beads (picked up at Michael’s)
  • Colored Twine (picked up at Michael’s)

Here are the simple steps to make this project:

I hung this organizer right above my desk area which also doubles as my craft and sewing area.  I love how the organizer added extra storage space without having something additional sitting atop my desk and craft area.

I choose to store my bundles of washi tape (you can never have enough washi tape,) markers, foam brushes, some scrapbooking tools, and twine in the organizer.

You could change up the colors on this project easily and also add different shapes along the sides or do away with them completely.  But I do think it adds an extra dimension to it!

And as if I haven’t posted enough photos of the final organizer… here’s one more:

Next time you’re about to toss your used containers think about what you could make from them… anywhere from a fruit bowl to an organizer the possibilities are endless!
