Sometimes I Feel Happy Sometimes I Feel Sad – Book Review

Disclosure: I was invited to be in the review group by the author and received a copy of this book for free. My opinions are my own and I was not paid or required to write this review.

My daughter is now two, and, wow, this is a whole new ballgame.  I have heard of the terrible twos but was never prepared for the emotional roller coaster that comes along with this age.  I want to support my daughters emotions and feelings and let her know that it is okay to feel different ways and that the important part is how we handle our emotions and try to identify as they are coming on and ways to express them appropriately.

Sometimes_i_feel_happy_COVERA couple weeks ago, right on que, I received an email asking if I would like to review Sometimes I Feel Happy Sometimes I Feel Sad by Babs Bell Hajdusiewicz.  Last year I reviewed her wonderful board series books and we continue to read those books frequently so I jumped on the chance to review this one as well.

Sometimes I Feel Happy Sometimes I Feel Sad is an activity book that includes poems and activities to help children understand their feelings.  It is a great way to help support your child’s emotions and teach them about the ups and downs of feelings.

As soon as the activity book arrived I couldn’t wait to get my hands-on it.  The book includes 14 lessons to do with your child.  There are great queues and guidance as well as support text to guide you with each lesson.  With each lesson there is also an activity.   The activities are great and usually involve making a craft to go along with the activity.

Sometimes_I_feel_happy_-_SAD_pageThe I Feel Happy! and I Feel Sad lessons promp  your child to talk about when they feel happy and when they feel sad.

With the I Feel Happy! lesson you make a fun Happy-Times Dance Partner for your child to dance with the next time they feel happy.  And with the I Feel Sad lesson there is a wonderful activity to make Helpful Thoughts Flowers when you are feeling sad.

The book also includes lessons for when your child is feeling guilty, to help them cope with saying good-bye to a family member or friend, when someone dies, and for when they feel angry or worried.

The poems and activities were helpful to me with my daughter, we have been revisiting the angry page a little to frequently and it has been helpful to prompt her to discuss about how she is feeling and what we can do to make her feel better.

The Sometimes I Feel Happy Sometimes I Feel Sad book will help your child think about the many times when they have felt happy or sad.  The poems and activities will help answer their questions about death and other sad things that may happy in their lives.  The book encourages your child to talk with family members and friends about their feelings.  You can purchase the new activity book here.
