Consider Rehoming or Adopting a Chihuahua with Get Your Pet

In case you didn’t know I am born and raised in Philadelphia and grew up with dogs, and with the holiday season approaching I have been thinking about bringing a dog into our home.

One of the breeds that we love are Chihuahuas and I just found out about a service called Get Your Pet.  Get Your Pet is an online community that helps connect people who want to adopt or rescue a dog with people who need to find their dog a new home in their region.  Get Your Pet Chihuahua Philadelphia allows you direct access to Chihuahuas in the Philadelphia area and helps to relieve shelters and saves animals’ lives all at the same time.

I was shocked when I read that 7.5 million animals are put into shelters every year and of those, 2.5 million are from people that had to give up their pet.  And of the 7.5 million animals put in shelters, 2.6 million of the animals are euthanized.

Get Your Pet differs from a shelter in that you are rehoming from another owner, keeping them out of the shelter system.

It’s a “better kind of pet adoption, in every way.”

We are drawn to the small size of Chihuahuas and also their spunky personality.  According to the American Kennel Club, Chihuahuas are loyal, charming energetic.  Since they are a smaller dog breed, they make ideal city pets.  They love to explore and accompany you on new adventures, something my family loves to do (read about our first family trip and tips here)!  Come the cold winters (like in Philadelphia,) they love to stay warm by snuggling up with you on your lap.

Both of my children love dogs and Chihuahuas as well so we have been spending time searching Get Your Pet and reading about different ones available for adoption and rehoming.

Like 2 year old Julio who is sensitive and affectionate. He is a bundle of mischief and loves to cuddle with people on the couch and enjoys outside walks. He also loves to chase squirrels and geese!

Luna is a 5 month old who was brought into a shelter as a stray off of the streets.  The current owners have a busy lifestyle with young children and Luna needs a quieter environment to thrive in.

Diego is an older Chihuahua and comes when called and walks well on a leach.  He is quiet and loves his beautiful fur to be brushed and petted.  Looks like that’s what he is waiting for in this photo too!

With so many Chihuahuas available for rehoming and adoption in the Philadelphia area, I urge you to please consider rehoming a Chihuahua as it keeps them out of shelters.  Get Your Pet is a great service that will help you to find the perfect match for you and your family.

Do you have a dog in your home?  Any Chihuahua families out there!?  I would love for you to leave a comment below with what you love most about this breed!
